Q. What courses do you offer?
Q. Who should attend the Leadership and Management training courses?
A. Impellus offers a range of management training courses to cover most aspects of manager’s roles. We also provide different levels of courses dependent upon the responsibilities and seniority of your delegates. ILM Award Level 3 courses are designed for managers whereas ILM Award Level 5 courses are more suitable for senior managers.
Our courses are designed for managers who want to develop themselves, their team or their organisation. So, you may have a good team player who wants to progress to a more senior role, a brand new manager who does not have any formal management training and/or a longer standing manager who does not have people management skills or a more senior manager who wants to focus more on organisational strategy and development – all would be suitable for Impellus training.
Q. Who should attend the Commercial Skills training courses?
A. Managers and key team members who are very competent in the core skills required for their specific roles but who recognise that a greater understanding in the areas covered by these courses will help them make better decisions that lead to higher organisational performance.
Q. How will a training course help my employees and organisation?
A. There are numerous benefits, some of which include enabling your managers to broaden their horizons and recognise that their everyday challenges are shared by others in different organisations and industries. Your managers will be able to empower their team to work better together and will align their team’s objectives to the organisational vision. As an organisation you will benefit from motivated managers and engaged employees, which should impact positively on your competitiveness, productivity, employee retention and overall performance.
Q. Is there a selection of topics covered in your open courses?
A. Yes we offer eleven leadership and management courses covering the various aspects of a middle and senior manager’s role. We also offer four commercial skills training courses – a full list of all our course topics are available on the All Courses section of our website.
Q. Who can help me if I need some advice on choosing the right course?
A. Any member of the Impellus’ Customer Relationship team at our head office and the Learning Development Consultants, who deliver our training, will be able to help you decide on the right course.
Q. Who runs the courses?
A. Our team of directly employed Learning and Development Consultants run the courses. They come from commercial backgrounds and have considerable learning and development experience so bring our courses to life with inspiring insights and examples.
Q. How long is the course?
A. Our ILM Award Level 2 and 3 courses are each one day courses. ILM Award Level 5 courses are two day courses.
Q. On what days/dates do the training courses run?
A. Our courses run from Tuesday to Friday most weeks of the year. We do not run courses in some weeks of August and December as the demand is insufficient.
Q. How can I find out if there’s any space on my chosen training course?
A. If you visit the All Courses page of our website, you can filter on your desired course and location and see if there are places available. Alternatively, you can call the Customer Relationship Team at Impellus on 0800 619 1230.
Q. How much does it cost to attend a training course?
A. The price of a one day training course is £599.00 +VAT per delegate. Funding is available for employers investing in management training, which reduces the price to £299.00 +VAT per delegate per one day course.

Q. What is included in the price?
A. The price includes the full day’s training, all course materials, a two-course lunch, morning coffee, afternoon tea and refreshments on arrival. You will also be invited to join the Impellus Business Centre, which is a secure website for Impellus clients.
Q. Do you offer any discount on the standard price?
A. If you would like to buy one of our multi-day booking packages you will be eligible for the appropriate discount. Full details are available here.
Q. I have several employees that I would like to attend a training course, can I pay for multiple places in one go?
A. Yes, we have a range of multi-day booking packages which qualify for discounts. Once you have paid for the package, the days will be credited to your account and you can draw off the places as and when required.
Q. What happens if I can’t make the scheduled training course date?
A. Depending on the number of working days before your course date and the number of delegates who cannot make the scheduled training date, you may incur a fee to cancel or move the date. Full details can be found here.
Q. Do you charge for cancellations?
A. If you cancel within 30 working days of the course day you will incur a cancellation fee of £85 +VAT per delegate. More information is available on our Terms & Conditions page.
Q. Where do the training courses take place?
A. Impellus has 25 training centres across the UK. We run courses very regularly in the major cities of London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds. Less frequently we train at our other 21 UK locations – a full list of our venues can be found here.
Q. How do I get there?
A. All Impellus training centres are easily accessible by public transport and car. One of the reasons we choose our training venues is their proximity to train stations, bus routes and major road networks.
Q. If I travel by car, will there be free parking?
A. Yes, all of our training centres offer free car parking except for the Central London venue where there is no car parking.
Q. How do I book a course?
A. You can complete the enquiry form online and a member of our Customer Relationship Team will contact you to finalise the booking. Alternatively, you can call the team on 0800 619 1230 and they will take the booking from you.
Q. What happens after I’ve booked my training course?
A. Within 24 hours of your booking, you will receive an email confirmation plus your invoice by a separate email. Seven days before the course you will receive joining instructions by email, these will be repeated one day before the course.
Q. When do I need to pay for the course?
A. Payment is due at the time of booking unless days/places have been paid for previously and credited to your account.
Q. How can I pay?
A. Payment can be made by bank transfer and approved credit and debit cards.
Funding for management training
Q. Is there funding available for your courses?
A. Funding of up to 50% is currently available to organisations in England, Scotland and Wales who are investing in management training via ILM open management courses and Commercial Skills training courses. Find out more here.
Q. How do I find out if I am eligible for the funding?
A. You only need to provide a few details about your organisation and the delegate(s) attending and then the process can be completed quickly over the telephone by one of the Impellus’ Customer Relationship team.
Preparation for our courses
Q. What time do training courses start and finish?
A. The training course runs from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Registration commences at 9.00 am with refreshments. There is an hour’s break for a two-course lunch.
Q. How many people will be on the course with me?
A. Impellus caps its open courses at 24 delegates. So, the maximum number that will be in the room with you will be 23.
Q. What type of experience can I expect on the course?
A. Impellus’ training rooms are laid out cabaret style with round tables seating a maximum of six delegates per table. The face-to-face training format incorporates interactivity between trainer and delegates, as well as group activities and break-out sessions. Our training environment is friendly and comfortable with our courses being designed to challenge even the best managers who have potential to go further. Q. Is there any kind of dress code for my course?
A.The dress code is smart casual but we request that torn jeans are not worn on our courses.
Q. Do you offer any form of course material prior to the training day?
A. We will email you seven days before the course with details for the day. We do not circulate any course material in advance of the day, but the individual course pages on our website provide a description of the course. You can also download a full course schedule for the day if you would like this information before the course. As an example, visit the course page for our Leadership Skills Development course.
Q. Who should I contact if I have special requirements for my course?
A. You will be asked at the time of booking if you have any special requirements. However, if you do not personally make your booking, you can contact the Impellus Customer Relationship Team before your course and advise your requirements. On the day of the course, you can speak to the Impellus Learning Consultant delivering your course and they will see if the training centre can accommodate your requirements.
On the day of the training course
Q. Who will welcome me at the training venue on the day of the course?
A. Our Learning and Development consultant who will be delivering the course will greet you at the registration point in the training centre from 8.30 am onwards. They will introduce themselves and ask you what you are hoping to achieve from the day. They will be available until all delegates have arrived or until 9.25 am, whichever is the earlier. After that time they will accompany delegates to the training room.
Q. Who else will be on the training course with me?
A. There will be managers from a selection of organisations across different industry sectors attending the course. On some courses you may find that there is more than one employee from the same organisation, particularly at the training centres that we do not visit so regularly.
Q. Will I receive some form of certificate when the course has finished?
A. At the time of booking you will be asked if you would like a certification for attending the course. These are charged at £11.95 +VAT. If you decide after the course that you would like a certificate, we can arrange to send it to you on receipt of the fee.
Q. Are your courses approved by a professional training body?
A. Yes Impellus is an ILM-Approved Training Centre which means that our leadership and management programmes and the qualifications of Award Levels 2, 3 and 5 in Leadership and Management are approved by the ILM (formerly known as the Institute of Leadership and Management) – the UK’s leading provider of leadership, coaching and management qualifications and training. The ILM is part of The City & Guilds Group.
Our Learning and Development Consultants are qualified to provide support to participants studying their ILM Awards and submitting their assessments.
Q. What is the connection between the ILM and the City & Guilds Group?
A. ILM is a City & Guilds Group Business. All ILM Award qualifications are awarded by The City and Guilds of London Institute, which was founded in 1878 and is incorporated by Royal Charter.
Q. Is there an opportunity for me to continue my professional development after this course?
A. Yes, Impellus is an ILM-Approved Training Centre, so we offer ILM Level 2, 3 and 5 courses which can lead to the ILM Awards Level 2, 3 and 5 in Leadership and Management and we can support you to achieve these qualifications (see above).
Over 70,000 ILM Award qualifications are awarded each year and over one million people hold an ILM qualification.
Q. How do I register for an ILM qualification?
A. If you contact our Customer Relationship Team at head office they can take down the relevant details from you and process your registration with the ILM. The registration fee is £299.50 +VAT. If you have purchased a multi-day booking package, you can choose to take a day off of your account to pay for the registration.
Q. How long should it take to complete my Award qualification?
A. You will be need to attend the required number of courses for the level of Award you are taking (Award Level 3 = three x 1 day courses, Award Level 5 = 2 x two day courses) before you can complete your assessment. You have up to three years to complete and pass the assessment, but we strongly recommend that you try to complete it as soon as is practically possible to maximise on the learnings.
Q. How do I log into the Impellus Business Centre?
A. You will receive an email seven days before your course date with the joining instructions. Within this email will be a login and password for the Impellus Business Centre that will enable you to log in and change your password. You can keep track of your courses and ILM Award studies via this portal.
Q. Do you offer in-house or tailored/bespoke training?
A. Yes we can provide any of the ILM courses that we run as open courses or tailored courses for only a small amount extra. We can also be commissioned to deliver bespoke training programmes for organisations, whether that be for short- or long-term projects.
Q. What are the advantages of in-house training over open courses?
A. There are advantages and benefits to both forms of training and it depends on your organisation’s objectives and circumstances.
If your organisation has very specific workflow processes, a change management programme or organisational developments that you would like to communicate to a group of managers of the same level of seniority, in-house management training is very suitable and effective.

Q. What does a blended approach to training mean?
A. This combines both open and in-house training formats. Some organisations carry out in-house training for a team of employees and having identified further training needs for some people, they then book different open training courses for the individuals to attend. Alternatively, an organisation may use open management training courses to train individual members and later hold an in-house training session for a cultural change programme that is specific to their business.
